Frequently asked questions
Short answers. Your dentist can tell you more at your visit.
01Do you take my insurance?
We file claims with most PPO dental plans. Whether we're in network depends on your plan, so tell us which one you have when you call and we'll check before your visit. How fees work lists each plan type.
02What if I don't have insurance?
You pay the fee for your visit, and we give you a written estimate before treatment starts. Financing is offered by third-party lenders. Approval and terms are set by the lender.
03Do you see patients on Medicaid or CHIP?
Call us and we'll answer plainly for your plan or your child's. Dental benefits differ from plan to plan.
04Will it hurt?
We numb the area before we start, and you can ask for more if you feel anything. Agree on a hand signal with your dentist and we stop right away. If something is going to be uncomfortable, we'll tell you first.
05How often do I need X-rays and a cleaning?
Your dentist decides, based on your mouth and your history. Many people come twice a year, and some need to come more often. We take X-rays only when your dentist decides they will help.
06What is a deep cleaning?
It is a cleaning below the gumline, often over more than one visit and with numbing, for gums that show signs of infection. Your dentist explains why it is advised and what the alternatives are before you agree.
07Do you see children, and from what age?
Yes. Dental groups advise a first visit around the first birthday, or when the first tooth comes in. Our dentists see parents and children on the same day, so you can book back to back.
08What counts as a dental emergency, and what should I do first?
Call us right away about a broken or knocked-out tooth, or pain that will not settle, and we will fit you in when the schedule allows. For swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, or bleeding that will not stop, go to an emergency room or call 911.
09Do you offer sedation?
We offer nitrous oxide, a gas you breathe through a small mask that helps you relax while you stay awake. Your dentist and a trained assistant stay with you and watch you the whole time, and it wears off soon after the mask comes off. If you would need a deeper level of sedation, we refer you to a dentist who provides it.
10Can I get a written estimate before treatment?
Yes. Ask when you schedule or at your visit. After your exam we list the treatment, the visits it takes and what it will cost, and we go through your benefits with you. Your plan's final payment can differ, and we explain any difference before you pay.
11Do you speak Spanish?
Dr. Balderas speaks Spanish with patients, and this whole site is available in Spanish. Tell us your language when you request a visit.
12How do I change or cancel a visit?
Call us or send a message as early as you can, and we will find another time. If you cancel, we can offer the slot to someone who is waiting.
